Checkerboard Field Tile
The checkerboard is a floor pattern with real staying power. Set light and dark squares in an alternating grid and you get a look that feels both classic and current, whether it is a black-and-white marble entry or a softer cream-and-gray bath. This collection gathers the marble and limestone field tiles that make it work, including honed black and white 12x12.
The pattern reads best with a clear contrast between the two colors and a tight grout line so the grid stays crisp. Turn the squares 45 degrees for a diamond checkerboard that stretches a narrow room. Honed stone is the safer choice underfoot since it grips better than polished.
