LEDGER PANELS

Showing all 9 products

Ledger panels are made from leftover scrap pieces that come from block trimmings or leftovers from tile trimmings. These strips are usually split into uneven stone pieces to give a naturally split piece of rock. These pieces are sized to various sizes and then glued on to a harder surface to create a solid piece for ease of installation. Some other factories glue these pieces together to get the same effect.

Stone ledgers are usually done in interlocking staggered joint mosaic formation so that one does not tell the seams on wall applications.

These panels are a less expensive alternative to stacked stone veneers. Original veneer panels are big and bulky and you need an anchoring system to hand them to walls. Stone ledger panels are inexpensive and abundant. They are also known as panel ledgers.

Accent walls such as above fireplaces, archways, retaining walls in or around pool areas are perfect for stacked stone veneers. Natural stone is a very rich and popular and exterior wall covering pieces such as these contribute to any home.

What is ledger panel made of?

The most common material for this is travertine. Travertine pieces strip easily and all the holes and crevices create a very natural exterior stone. Ledger stone fireplace surrounds are also a natural application for these. Slate or quartzite is also popular for this material. Particularly white quartzite makes the most beautiful white ledger stone.

Can you use ledger stone panels on backsplashes? We don't really recommend this particular application. IT will look beautiful but it will be hard to clean in residential kitchens.

Ledger stone panels from stonetiledepot come with corner pieces. Installation of these panels is easy but corners can be very challenging. Stone pieces are assembled to create hard to follow repeats. While that looks beautiful, corners are not easy. Our panels come with corner pieces. These pieces are mitered so that there is a seamless return on the wall corners.

How do you install natural stone ledger panels?

They are easy to install. We recommend dry laying all the pieces to use the most desirable pieces. Some of the pieces may have lost glue or broken pieces. Spare these for cuts as needed. Make sure to stagger the pieces and use some cut pieces in the middle to disguise joints. You don't need to grout these panels, especially on accent walls. However, we recommend sealing them.

Cutting these panels is easy. We recommend that your supplier has these cut at a specialty shop to your specifications. IF you have to cut them at the job site, you will need a wet saw for cutting marble. Remember, some of them come with a net on the back. if that is the case, be sure not to remove the net which actually holds these pieces together. We also recommend cutting them very slowly, almost one strip at a time so that pieces don't come loose.

Arches related to ledger panels may be challenging to install. Ledger pieces come on fairly rigid pieces and it may not be easy to make turns or install them on an archway. For this application, you may have to cut to pieces into shorter strips or lose some pieces.

Variations of Ledger panels:

In addition, to split pieces, there are many other variations of these panels. Straight joint assembled pieces or high and low pieces create many variations. A recent trend of using different thickness create particularly interesting wall tile applications. These tiles vary in random thickness and length.
