White Stone Mosaics

White stone mosaics and its applications

White Stone Mosaics offer an almost endless array of design options and high functionality for the homeowner or interior designer. As we have said before, mosaics are their own works of art. They serve as an area of interest or focal point and are often used to break up patterns or add life to simple designs. They’re designed to be used as backsplashes or transition pieces, although some ambitious homeowners enjoy the look and feel of an accent wall comprised entirely of mosaic tiles.

Types of White Stone Mosaics

Pebbles

White stone pebbles come from the beaches of Indonesia or Bali. These islands have plenty of natural flat pebbles in riverbeds and beaches. White pebbles are perfect for shower floors and walls. These pebbles create an uneven surface so that it is more slip-resistant. In addition, they are easy to clean. Furthermore, many outside areas such as water features on exterior walls or around pool areas use pebbles for water used in landscape architecture.

Hand clipped mosaics

Carrara marble and Calacatta Marble is one of the best materials to clip by hand. These materials are not very hard and they have a nice splitting point. Mosaics in Venice or Ravenna area used these white marbles for mosaic production for centuries.

Waterjet Mosaics

Natural Stone mosaic tiles have been around for centuries. Modern technology made it possible to produce large and small pieces that weave intricate floor tile designs. These designs are made with stone and wood, and stone and glass as well as many exotic marbles.

Wall mosaics are used in backsplashes as well as oven hoods. These are some of the most visible parts of the house and beautiful waterjet mosaics are timeless. They increase the value of any home.

Installation of Mosaic Tiles

Most mosaic tiles come either face taped or mesh-mounted. There are advantages to both methods. Face tape makes it easier to handle and marble itself adheres to the floor better. The disadvantage of it is that the tape has a shelf life and if it is not stored properly, it can dissolve. Mesh mount on the other hand does not expire and easier to install. However, mesh itself can come lose on certain applications.

Regardless of either method, use any other tile installation guidelines. Make sure to mix the mosaics in a dry bed to blend them well. Sometimes, mosaic sheets can have tones of light and dark colors. IF they are not blended properly, it may create an unnatural checker pattern.

Stone wall applications can be more challenging. Wall tile takes some time to dry and mosaic sheets can be difficult to align in order to make the joints less obvious. Tile mosaics in other materials like glass mosaics are even more challenging in installation. You have to use a premium white thin-set or even epoxy-based thin-set.

White stone mosaics add the obvious clean, pure approach that white almost always conveys. In design terms, white brings a true sense of hygiene, abundant life, and radiant beauty. Naturally, it also works on the background in which to paint or pair other design elements in floor tiles.
