Ponte in Silver Horizon

Honed marble mosaics in the Ponte design, beige, on square sheets of 14 5/16 inches. Each sheet is 1.42 square feet, and six of them weigh in at 8.52 square feet per box. A flatiron 1x12 trim matches the colour.

Design

Bigger sheets than usual

Most mosaic sheets measure about a foot square. These run over fourteen inches, which means fewer seams to line up across a run and fewer chances for the pattern to drift out of true. Silver Horizon is a beige with soft movement rather than hard veining, and honing keeps it matte so the Ponte geometry stays the thing you notice. Three other sheet sizes carry the same stone, along with a hexagon tile, a plank and a 16x24 Textura, which gives a room more than one way to use the material.

Larger than the usual mosaic format, so fewer seams.

Where to use it

Shower floors on file

The record shows shower floors, with the kitchen as the room listed. Kitchen floor tiles built from small pieces give grout every couple of inches, which is exactly why mosaic ends up on a surface that has to drain. Nine boxes will cover 60 square feet. Sheets want adhesive behind every piece, because a hollow beneath marble turns into a split tile once weight finds it.

Nine boxes

8.52 square feet each across 60 square feet.

Full bed

No gaps behind the mesh, or a piece cracks later.

Why we chose it

  • Fewer seamsA fourteen inch sheet covers more ground per piece.
  • Quiet stoneHoned beige keeps the pattern in front of the veining.
  • A wider familyThree more sheet sizes plus hexagon, plank and Textura tiles.

Care

Seal once it is laid, then again every one to two years. A pH neutral stone cleaner is the right thing; bleach, ammonia and scouring pads are not.
